Tough Times Never Last but Tough People Do

3rd to 7th June 2010: 5 days, 120 hours, 7200 minutes.

2 schools, 1 volcano, 1 mountain & 23 brave warriors

10 Dunmanians from Dunman High School, 10 Siglapians from Siglap Secondary School

Mr Yeo Meng Han from DHS, Mr. Aminur B Rasid & Mrs Angela Khiu from SSS.

5 days of fun, joy,peace and laughter.

First Day:

Depart from Changi Airport in the morning 7.50 am, entered the skies of Indonesia and landed in Surabaya. Went to see a Mudlake, was supposed to be a place where they dig for oil but ended up is continuous flow of underground water. Settled down in Hotel “Nadia”. Went to SDN WONOKERTO I. Played with the kids there, painted 2 walls of their classrooms. Dinner at Hotel. 10 Dunmanians gathered in 1 room to play uno. Went to sleep.

Day 2 :

Woke up at 2.30 am. Depart from Hotel at 3 am in a 4-wheeled Jeep. Went to see the Beautiful Sunrise. Took the jeep down. Climbed Mt. Bromo. Amazing and fascinating Sight! Rode a horse down the volcano. Sang songs and got HIGH on the way back to Hotel. Amazing Jeep with the Amazing Driver with the most Amazing Passengers! Breakfast at Hotel. Packed up and bid Goodbye to Hotel “Nadia”. 4 hours ride to next destination. Stopped for Lunch at local restaurant. Went to shop at Malang Town Square. Reached the next destination. Settled down. Wash up. Took van to local restaurant for dinner. Shop for snacks at the shop beside it. Went back to the hotel. 10 Dunmanians in a room playing murderer and ” WHO, WHAT, HUH “. Continued playing Tai Ti with Yushan, Alex, Jyh Howe and me in the room till 1 am. Went to Sleep.

3rd Day:

Woke up at 6 am. Breakfast in bed. Bread with Jam. Packed up, took a doorless van to the next destination. Green Fields with Huge Cabbage. Took a farm truck up the mountain. Rocky Path. Reached Starting point. Trek up to Camp site. 6 hours. Exhausted but still mentally energetic. Cross logs, Roots, branches. Protruding on your left, Protruding on your right. Step up. Obstacle course. Keep left, holes on right. Keep right, holes on left. It was totally barging into the forest with plants at waist level. Muddy shoes, muddy socks, muddy pants. Finally! Reached Base camp, settled down, stood around fire to get warmth. Dinner time in huge tent. Went to sleep at 8 am. Woke up at 12 am. Extreme Cold. 4 degrees. Went to sit by the fire. Beautiful clear night sky with a vast amount of stars. Heard some animal’s howling or barking. Went back to sleep.

第4天:

Woke up at 4.30 am. Too cold. Ate breakfast. Cheese with bread. Started the climb towards Mt. Welirang. Rocky Path. Totally Vertical Climb. Scary and dangerous but exciting. Reached Summit! Climbed down, risk life as we walked down falling and unstable rocky path to see sulfur. Yellow but really SMELLY! Became a Ninjia and found my fellow funny Ninjia mates. Learnt some simple malay. 笨 chor meng.haha! Descend down to base camp to have lunch. Packed up and descended down to the starting point. Cross logs, roots, branches. Step down. Protruding objects on left and right side. Holes on left and right side. Slide down slippery slopes, fell a few times. Finally reached at 5.30 pm. Sun sets down. Took the truck down the dark rocky road. Switched to the Van and went to a local restaurant. Awesome food. Took van to HOTEL. Nice and proper hotel. Cleaned up, packed, watch tv, went to sleep.

Last Day:

Woke up at 6 am. Went down for nice and proper breakfast. Packed and headed to the airport. Bid goodbye to the skies of Indonesia and entered the Skies of Home. Touched down.

This trip was unbelievable, total madness, exciting, fun, enjoyable, memorable, amazing, awesome, fantastic, excellent, good, nice, BEST! These memories will stay with me for life! Brave warriors from Siglap and Dunamn High conquered a volcano, a mountain together!
